SEVERAL hundred people will benefit from ‘martial aid’ this Christmas after Martial Art World presented their festive food collection to Trevor Sleath for Andover Food bank.
The food had been collected over the past month by all the different classes, from the Little Ninja’s, colour grades in kick boxing and Tae Kwon Do, both Black Belt disciplines and including KMA.
“We believe in working together with our local community. It’s very important to be positive role models to our children by demonstrating acts of kindness,” said Mrs Kris Bonthuys.
Andover Food bank co-ordinator Trevor Sleath said “I’m very grateful to Martial Arts World. The food bank runs entirely on donations.
“We can only give to people in crisis the food we are given. These acts of kindness keep the flow of food coming in.”
The demand for food bank support has increased steadily since the food bank started in 1985. In its first year Andover food bank feed 400 people in one year. Now it feeds 400 people a month.
“This December we will have to feed well over 800 people in our catchment area and over 5,500 people in 2013,” said Trevor Sleath.
There has been a 33 per cent increase in food demand from this time last year.
