ONE of the last surviving mayors of the Borough of Andover died earlier this month at Andover Nursing Home at the age of 94.

Queenie Anne Thorne was Mayor of Andover in 1969-70. The current Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Janet Whiteley, will represent the borough at the cremation service in Basingstoke on Monday.

Her family have said that they would welcome other former colleagues or friends who were known to her to attend.

Former councillor Jill Hannington said: “When Anne was Mayor she made Andover Boys Club one of her charities and I remember how my late father and the late Michael Colvin, George Lynn and Laurie Porter, who were all on the management committee at the time and were needing funds, were so pleased to have this support.

“As a former councillor myself Anne Thorne always supported me and if I ever needed any advice she would always give me sound advice which I valued.”
