THE Wellington Academy’s theatre was transformed into a careers fair for students on Tuesday.

Organiser Maria Hamblin said: “The purpose of the careers fair is to inform and inspire students to consider jobs they may not have even considered yet.

“They can learn more about the different pathways they can take and the range of opportunities available to them.

“Careers support for young people is crucial today if they are going to be able to manage their career pathways in the future and be prepared for the changing global market.

“The Government has taken away the service of careers for young people pushing the responsibility to schools to fulfil this role but in addition and more importantly they have also taken the money that was used to offer these services robbing young people of the support that should be their right in order to have successful futures.

“Young people living in rural locations where businesses are mainly small and medium sized enterprises, transport links are not ideal, major pockets of deprivation and a culture of worklessness prevails are in need of more support.”
