AN Outstanding Energy Club Award has been awarded to Kimpton, Thruxton and Fyfield CE Primary School.
A plaque to mark the occasion was presented to Jane Rimmington, the business manager at the school who started up the Energy Club a year ago, by her brother, Roger East, Premier League referee who supported the school’s endeavours in encouraging the children to become more active and have fun at the same time.
Sports Leaders UK, which runs Energy Club, praised the school for being a beacon of best practice in engaging children in physical activities, recruiting committed volunteers to the programme and involving parents and support staff.
Sports Leaders UK provides training and support for volunteers running the Energy Club to lead fun activities and teach children about the right food choices for their long term health.
Volunteers include parents, teaching assistants, members of school networks, and volunteers from local companies.
Jane Rimmington said: “One of the qualities we encourage in all our pupils is to look after ‘mind, body and spirit’ and Energy Club is an embodiment of that ideal.”
Pam Simpson, head teacher, said: “It is a great honour to receive an Outstanding Energy Club Award and get official recognition for our work getting children more active.
“We are very fortunate to have a wonderful group of volunteers who are willing to provide our pupils with more physical activity and nutritional information to ensure they have a brighter future.
“Our pupils reap the many health benefits, and have a great time in the process.
“It even has the additional advantage that they concentrate better in class and are more alert.”
