AN investigation into Hampshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner has been dropped.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) was looking into an allegation that Simon Hayes was not living in Hampshire or the Isle of Wight at the time of his election. However this week the commission announced that it is no longer looking into this.
Mr Hayes said: “The IPCC and the CPS have considered whether there were any irregularities relating to my residency at the time of my nomination. The complaint that I did not live in Hampshire was considered by the IPCC to be without merit. In addition the CPS has considered that there was no evidence to suggest that there was anything improper in my nomination form.
“Although an intrusion into my personal life, this has not distracted me from my responsibilities to the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The matter has been investigated and I have been found to have done nothing wrong.”
