Soldiers to parade in town
10:00am Monday 7th October 2013 in News
A MAJOR parade of soldiers will take place through Andover next Saturday, 12 October.
The soldiers of 22 Engineer Regiment from Perham Down will celebrate their homecoming from Afghanistan by parading through the town from approximately 10.30am.
The Army Air Corps will carry out a flypast on the day, and the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers will provide background music to add to the atmosphere.
The march will muster in the Town Mills Car Park to the rear of Wilkinsons and will travel along Bridge Street, Winchester Street, Eastern Avenue and East Street towards the Vigo Road roundabout.
Test Valley Borough Council leader, Ian Carr said, “Andover is proud to be the local hub for a number of regiments and Army organisations.
“The march is an exciting opportunity for people to join together and show their support for our Armed Forces, and in particular, the work of 22 Engineers who have all returned safely from a six-month tour of Afghanistan.
“The march is set against the backdrop of a number of other weekend events in and around the High Street, and I would encourage people to make a date in their diary to visit Andover and stay for a while to experience the best things that the town can offer.”
Residents and businesses close to the parade route are being warned to expect some temporary disruption along these roads from approximately 10am to 11.15am.
In addition to this, shoppers and visitors to the town centre are reminded that the Town Mill car park will be closed from 4pm on Friday 11 October and will not reopen until the march has cleared the area.
