Smannell Road for skate park
11:00am Wednesday 9th October 2013 in News
FEEDBACK from hundreds of skateboarders and BMX riders has revealed that there is an overwhelming preference for a new skate park at Smannell Road, Roman Way – not Shepherd Spring Lane as originally planned.
The area has been home to a skatepark and as a result the borough council little work would need to be undertaken to prepare the area.
This would allow the full £140,000 budget to be spent on the facility itself rather than a significant proportion going towards mitigation and infrastructure work.
Plans for the preferred site at Roman Way will now be subject to planning agreement and approval from the council’s Cabinet.
Public consultation will continue throughout the process and it is hoped a new facility will be delivered by summer 2014.
Councillor Ian Carr, leader of Test Valley Borough Council, said: “The skate jam proved a great success and it seems everyone had a wonderful time.
“The proposal to build a new urban sports facility at Roman Way rather than Shepherds Spring Lane will now be the subject of a report to Cabinet. I would like to thank users for their feedback and hope we will have a new facility up and running as soon as possible.”
