Hundreds flock to fete
1:00pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
SHOWERS did not dampen the spirits of villagers for their annual fete.
More than 400 people turned out for the Weyhill church fete on Sunday, 8 September, traditionally held in the grounds of the Weyhill Fair pub.
Despite the on-off rain, visitors enjoyed a whole host of attractions, including a dog show, displays and many stalls.
James Cunniffe said: “The fete is held in the grounds of The Weyhill Fair and this year was held at the time of the historic sheep fair, a time when church and people met.
“No sheep were present but the crowds were entertained by numerous stalls and side shows, including odd balls, the dog show and at the end were blessed by the clergy.
“We are surprised and very grateful for the number of volunteers who help, setting up, manning stalls, making cakes, supplying goods and by generously donating. A big thank you to everyone who made it all possible, especially the people of Weyhill.”
