Spending cuts threaten morale at local prison
2:27pm Monday 9th September 2013 in News
THE Independent Monitoring Board of Winchester Prison has highlighted concerns about spending cuts at the local jail.
In its report on the year ended 31 May 2013 it says staff morale is suffering due to constant changes.
The reports said: “Staffing levels have again been lowered as a result of a fundamental re-assessment of roles and resources, and may be further reduced as part of the exercise to compare with other prisons. “Whilst it is recognised in the current economic situation that budget cuts are almost inevitable, the board is concerned that standards of decency and indeed safety are not compromised for financial expediency. “The Board remains concerned that constant changes have continued to have an adverse effect on the morale of staff and their ability to do their job efficiently.”
