Workers post some brilliant results
12:00pm Monday 2nd September 2013 in News
POSTAL workers in the Andover and Salisbury area delivered a better than target service this spring.
Figures show that 94.1 per cent of First Class letters in theSP postcode reachedtheir destination the following day – the target is 93 per cent.
The Second Class mail target was also exceeded, with 99 per cent of this mail delivered within three working days, against a target of 98.5 per cent.
The performance was delivered as Royal Mail continues the modernisation programme across its network, one of the biggest transformations under way anywhere in UK industry.
The news comes as privatisation looms.
New technology and better equipment is being deployed nationwide and the working practices of postmen and women are changing to optimise the network for the increasing volume of parcels and declining volume of letters posted.
Mike Devanny, delivery director for Royal Mail, said: “It is excellent news that we have exceeded our targets for First Class and Second Class letters and parcels.
“We are committed to maintaining our high standards of service for all of our customers – consumers and businesses in rural areas as well as towns and cities across the SP postcode area.
“Our postmen and women are delivering to one of the highest and most challenging next-day performance targets in Europe while undertaking one of the UK’s biggest transformations.”
