Bringing books to life
12:00pm Wednesday 7th August 2013 in News
TWO schools within the Discovery Federation, Roman Way and Endeavour Primary School have held their book weeks, whole-school festivals of reading, sharing and enjoying stories.
Endeavour followed a storytelling theme, while Roman Way had an artwork focus, celebrating how illustrations can help to better understand a text.
A variety of exciting activities took place throughout these weeks, including author visits, book fairs, competitions and dress-up days.
Both schools welcomed the illustrator and storyteller Susan Steggall, who ran a series of creative workshops. Pupils from Foundation and Key Stage One produced some artwork by applying Susan’s ‘collage’ technique.
Roman Way also held an inspirational workshop for its gifted and talented writers from Key Stage Two.
The author Joffre White guided children through the process of planning, creating and editing a professional piece of writing.
Russell Parkinson, school librarian for the Discovery Federation, said: “Children and staff alike enjoyed the different events, visitors to both schools praised the children’s politeness, positive attitudes and enthusiasm for learning.”
