LEG waxing, fancy dress and wearing all red were just a few ways in which local schools, businesses and clubs got involved with raising money for Comic Relief last week.

Pupils at Broughton Primary and Tidworth’s Clarendon Junior school came to school in all red to raise money, with Clarendon also holding a cake sale and performing a Red Nose Day song during their assembly.

Children and staff at Kimpton Primary School donned onesies and pyjamas to raise over £350, as well as dressing up for the day.

Each class raised further funds by holding cake sales, toy sales and showing movies.

Stylist Shaun Johnson from the Wakkie Hair Company in Ludgershall put up with the pain of waxing, charging £2 per strip and allowing residents and customers to wax his legs.

A zumba group at the Wykeham Club in Andover dressed up and raised money during their zumbathon.

Fundraisers and staff at Sainsbury’s store on Bridge Street also took part in fancy dress and held street collections and wet sponge throwing.

Wigs and luminous leg warmers were donned by staff at Sentinel Housing Association for their 80s fancy dress day and raised over £400.

So far the 2013 event has raised in excess of £75 million and is held every other year after being set up in 1985.
