AN Andover resident who photographed a beech tree from the same spot every day also captured its last moments.

The tree, believed to be between 150 and 200 years old, was felled in Beech Hurst Park.

Photographer Nicola Dunning said: “In September 2008 I decided to photograph the tree from the same spot every day or so. I wanted a series of photos recording the changes of the seasons and that beautiful tree seemed like a good subject.

“I walked that way every day anyway, after dropping the children to school, so I was able to take the photo at the same time each day.

“Now I really can’t believe the tree isn’t there anymore. I imagined it would be there forever.

“I still go into Beech Hurst regularly. It’s where I meet my running buddies.

“I shall really miss that magnificent beech tree.”

Nicola said the contractors, who felled the tree last week, told her that it had a fungus.

She said she supposed in time this would make it unsafe.
