A TEAM of volunteers supported by Test Valley Borough Council’s Environmental Service team cleared nearly nine tons of litter from Charlton’s roads and paths during last week’s Sparkle Day.

The team also gave advice to residents about waste and recycling and handed out over 80 Green Guides to Recycling.

Councillor Peter Boulton, environment portfolio holder, said: “Sparkle Days are a great initiative.

“I would like to thank the Environmental Service and the volunteers – Penny Burden and Grant from Grateley House School, the Community Payback team and Manuela Wahnon for all their hard work.”

Sparkle Days were introduced last year by the Environmental Service as part of its ongoing ‘Love Where You Live’ litter campaign, with the aim of adding an extra bit of sparkle to an area.

The next Sparkle Day will take place on 25 February 2013 in Kings Somborne.
