Fit and ready for Sahara
9:00am Monday 18th February 2013 in Andover
SUPERFIT David Baumber is preparing to take on the Sahara desert to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice in Basingstoke.
The four-day trek will see David, who works for of Overton-based Wailing Banshee Creative, cover 80 miles of desert while battling temperatures as high as 40 degrees during the day and near freezing at night.
Ahead of the trek David said: “Being a bit of a fitness fanatic I was immediately tempted when I heard about the Sahara trekking challenge, especially as I could do it to raise funds for St Michael’s hospice where my father-in-law Brian Fields passed away a year ago.
“The four days of trekking should take us about 80 miles and I’m just hoping I don’t get too many blisters. I’ve never done anything like this before and, I have to say, I’m nervous and excited in equal measure.
“Ultimately I’d love to raise £1,000 for St Michael’s so if anyone can spare a pound or two, it all adds up.”
