Contest held for children

ST Mary’s Church Appeal in conjunction with Andover Rotary Club are putting on an Andover Young Musician of the Year competition.

The event will take place at St Mary’s Church in Andover on 7 February to raise money for roof and other repairs.

Appeal fundraiser Chris Lynn said: “Due to the loss of lead from the roof of St M a r y ’ s Church, the church now has to raise over £200,000 to re-build the organ and church to keep it for our future generations.”

Tickets are £10 per head or £5 to the parents of acts taking part in the competition, while children aged 10 and under go free.

There are expected to be 12 to 15 acts from the local senior schools with two classes – classical and popular music.

All acts will be judged by the audience on the night.

The event starts at 6.30pm and there are first prizes of £100 and runners-up prizes of £50, with cups for the winning schools.

Tickets for the event are available from Waterstones or from Councillor Chris Lynn.
