Village to mark 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens

A celebration of the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth this year will be held in Upper Clatford Village Hall on Saturday 27 October at 7.30pm. Professional musicians Ben Birtle (‘Cello) and Barbara Henvest (Piano) who have played in some of the well-known symphony orchestras will give a recital of music by 19th century contemporaries of Dickens, including Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Schumann and Chopin. The music will be interspersed with a short account of his life and extracts from a selection of his many works, read by Ian Powell, a member of the Burdock Valley Players. Ian will be following in Dickens’ footsteps as Dickens also used to give readings from his works around the country.

The recital and celebration of Dickens’ work will be preceded by a traditional English supper, served by the All Saints’ Fundraisjng Committee. All proceeds will be in aid of All Saints’ Church. Tickets (£15) can be reserved by contacting Jane Kennedy tel; 01264 323804.
