EACH year I always take my kids to see the Hatch Warren Community Centre Fireworks Display.
It’s always a great evening, the kids love the fireworks (as does dad for that matter!) and always manage to convince me to buy something with madly flashing lights.
I also thoroughly enjoy the community feel of the event.
You get to talk to people who probably only live a few streets away but you don’t normally see and there is a real feeling of togetherness.
Sense of community This can be a rare feeling these days when many people either live in Basingstoke but don’t work here or vice versa so we often don’t see our neighbours.
However, I think a sense of community is important thing to foster.
The Bible makes it clear that God intended us to live in a community and Jesus himself speaks of the paramount importance of loving and taking care of one another, which we can only do when we are part of a community.
When we act as if only ourselves matter, something important is lost.
