THE Christmas and New Year celebrations are almost over and soon the decorations will be down and put away for another year, and we will return to our day-to-day lives.

It’s good, I think, at this time of year to reflect on the year past; what has gone well, what could have been done better, and what didn’t happen as expected.

Did something happen in the past year that felt really good that makes you want to do something similar again? Is there something you didn’t manage to do that is important for someone you know or for yourself? Will you try to make it happen this year? Is there something new you might try or something you’d do in a different way?

New Year’s resolutions can easily be self-focused but I wonder if a good resolution would be to resolve to try to do something kind for at least one person each day. Jesus in his life went about doing the most incredible acts of kindness, healing the sick and teaching the people about God. Today, Jesus offers us a chance to follow in his way.
