AS a parent, I spend a lot of my time driving my children across town to various activities.

Often we lift-share with others, which helps cut down the journeys.

When dropping children home, I listen out for what they say after being safely deposited.

Some jump out of the car, shut the door and make their way indoors, while others say ‘thank you’ before they go.

It’s always nice to be thanked when you do something for others. It shows that they recognise that you are doing something for them. Saying ‘thank you’ takes your eyes off yourself and on to the other person, acknowledging what they have done.

In the Bible there is a story about Jesus healing 10 people of leprosy, and yet only one came back and thanked him (Luke 17:11-19).

Jesus made a point of this, almost rebuking those who did not thank him for what he had done miraculously.

What about us? Are we thankful people? Gratitude is a very simple thing, and yet can so easily be forgotten.

The next time somebody does something kind for you, look them in the eye and say ‘thank you’. It will make their day!
