PLANS to install extra Christmas lights in Tadley this winter have been put on hold after none of the town's organisations came forward to assist in funding the venture.

Tadley Town Council wrote to many of the town's businesses and organisations asking for help with the cost of buying lights to put on 13 lampposts along the town's main road, Mulfords Hill, after other grant applications were unsuccessful.

In total, the project would have cost £6,800.

The council had budgeted for a £2,000 contribution towards the project, which would provide lights for four posts.

The scheme would have been in addition to the Christmas lights and tree that usually adorn the town.

At a meeting of the council's recreation and leisure committee, deputy clerk Dorothy Oakley told councillors that no one had come forward to assist.

Councillors decided that, unless someone came forward to help within the next few weeks, the plans should be put on hold.

A request for funds for the whole project would then be made at the next council budget.

Committee chairman Councillor Adrian Noad said: "If we are going to do it, we should do it properly."
