DETECTIVES have appealed to the killer of a grandmother murdered in her own home to contact the police.

Georgina Edmonds, the 77-year-old widow of Basingstoke coffee merchant Harry Edmonds, was found dead at her home in Brambridge, Hampshire, on January 11.

Detectives believe she was tortured with a knife for her cash card pin number before she was killed.

Appealing directly to the killer, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Barton said: "Only you will know what led to the attack on Mrs Edmonds.

"We need to make sure that this never happens again and that no one else, either close to home or within the community, is put in any sort of danger."

Chief Insp Barton added: "I appeal to you to give yourself up and end the terrible uncertainty within the victim's family and the local community."

Since January 11, the police have received more than 600 calls from members of the public offering information, and taken more than 1,200 statements.

Chief Insp Barton said: "I am very pleased with the response we have received from the public so far.

"However, I believe there are still people who have vital information who have not yet come forward."
