Union protestors heading to London

COACHES from Basingstoke will take members of UNISON to a protest in London.

The demonstration, against cuts to public services and jobs on October 20, will include members of various trade unions, community groups and members of the public who will take to the streets against the Government’s spending cuts and privatisation.

Tim Cutter, Hampshire UNISON branch secretary, said: “Communities are under threat by the destruction of public services. That’s why we’re marching in London.”

Anyone wanting to join the coach from Basingstoke to attend the protest should call UNISON on 01962 842094 or email unison@hants.gov.uk.

March, march, march. Because that will offer reasonable, rational suggestions as to where the funding should come from for these services being cut.

Sometimes I think 'the public' forget why local authorities exist. They are there to provide cost-effective services for those that live in the community and pay for them. Local authorities are not job creation schemes.
