RadCan raising cash for £12million centre
5:00pm Thursday 11th October 2012 in Local
TICKETS are still up for grabs for a dinner-dance in aid of a local cancer centre campaign.
Charity group RadCan is fundraising for a planned cancer centre which will offer chemotherapy, radiotherapy, palliative care, core therapies and complementary therapies in Basingstoke and north Hampshire.
Currently, people have to travel to Southampton or Guildford to receive radiotherapy treatment – a gruelling journey that a cancer patient could have to make daily for a period of up to six weeks at a time.
As previously reported by The Gazette, the centre, for which the location is yet to be confirmed, is expected to cost between £12million and £16m.
It is the brainchild of Merv Rees, consultant surgeon and clinical director of surgery at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The black-tie dinner-dance, described by organiser Angela Bennett as the largest fundraising event that RadCan has ever held, will take place at Audleys Wood Hotel, in Alton Road, Basingstoke on Saturday, October 20 from 7.30pm.
Angela said: “I hope that the people this centre will benefit will be among those who come along to support this event.
“People can come along individually, as large groups, as couples – it doesn’t matter. The most important thing is that we raise funds for this very important centre.”
The ticket price of £60 will include champagne, a three-course dinner, half a bottle of wine and tea or coffee. For tickets, call Viv Street on 01252 873961 or on 07713 538926.
