COFFEE and cake was enjoyed by hundreds of people who took part in The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – raising thousands of pounds in the process.
Dozens of groups, businesses and individuals in Basingstoke and the surrounding area joined in the Macmillan event, with the united aim of raising funds to help change the lives of people affected by cancer.
The annual fundraising campaign began in 1990, when the first coffee morning was held, and it has since really taken off nationally as a simple but efffective way of raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, with people donating the cost of a coffee and piece of cake to the charity.
The main focal point of this year’s event was last Friday, September 28, as people locally and nationally took part in the 22nd annual fundraiser.
Money used from the coffee mornings will fund services such as clinical nurses in Hampshire, emotional support and advice, an information pod in Basingstoke hospital, and information available in every Boots on the high streets of Hampshire.
Last year, 415 people in the county were also given grants from Macmillan totalling £130,000, to help with heating costs, clothing and other essential items.
