A DOCTOR has been charged with making indecent images of children and spying on people in intimate situations at Basingstoke Leisure Park and in hospitals.

Dr Anush Babu, of Mayflower Close, Chineham, was arrested in December last year and was charged by officers from Basingstoke CID in August with the offences, which span from April to July last year. Babu appeared at Andover Magistrates' Court, where he was sent for trial at Winchester Crown Court. A first hearing is due to take place in December.

The doctor gave no indication of how he would plead to the 17 offences - 12 counts of voyeurism and five counts of making indecent images. The 37-year-old is accused of spying on people in intimate situations at Basingstoke Leisure Park, in Worting Road, St Peter's Hospital, in Chertsey, John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, and other hospitals, and at a Halfords store.

The doctor is alleged to have filmed people doing private acts with the intention of looking at the footage for his own sexual gratification, knowing that they did not consent to the recording for that purpose.

He is also charged with taking indecent video images of children, including at the Leisure Park. Wearing a suit, Babu only confirmed his name in court, before being released on unconditional bail.

Information from the General Medical Council states that Babu has worked in accident and emergency medicine in Hampshire. He gained his primary medical qualification in 1999 at Charles University in Prague before becoming a fully qualified doctor in October 2007.
