Woman's death due to 'rare condition'

A HARTLEY Wintney woman died suddenly from an unforeseen liver condition, an inquest heard.

Mother-of-two Anzelle Lello, of Sandy Lane, died at Basingstoke hospital on June 15 this year. She had been found unresponsive at her home earlier that morning.

A post-mortem examination found that the 39-year-old died of liver failure, and that her liver was fatty.

But Andrew Bradley, coroner for North East Hampshire, said Mrs Lello had none of the conditions that normally cause fatty liver, such as alcoholism, obesity or diabetes.

He said: “This was not caused by an external stimulus. It was a condition that she was suffering.

“It’s highly significant, and I have to say that from this side of the bench, it’s very rare. I probably only deal with one of these deaths every two to three years.”

David Lello, her husband, told the inquest that he had contacted his GP and a liver consultant at Basingstoke hospital because he could not understand the cause of death.

He said: “She had no pain or swelling or discomfort and on the morning of her death she was lively and happy and healthy.”

Mr Bradley said: “There’s nothing that will give you the history of it. It’s deeply unsatisfactory but death is not optional. There’s no indication that this lady is ill which is why it’s such a desperate shock.”
