Pheasant-rustlers strike at farm near St Mary Bourne

Police are appealing for information following the theft of 70 pheasants from a farm in Stoke near St Mary Bourne.

The incident occurred between 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 5 and 8.30am on Thursday, September 6.

The offenders would have had to enter the land on foot to reach the pheasants' pen and it would have taken several bags to carry the birds, valued at around £200.

Countrywatch officer PC Steve Rogerson said: “It is unlikely that the birds have been taken for food as they are only young and too small to eat. They are therefore probably being kept in another pen.

“Among the birds stolen were black pheasants which are not particularly common. I would like to hear from anyone who has been offered these birds for sale or has any information about them.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact PC Rogerson at Basingstoke police station by phoning 101. Mini-Com users can call the police on 18001 101. Information can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
