Paddy Power applies to convert Badgers sandwich bar into betting shop

BOOKIE Paddy Power has applied for planning permission to convert Badgers sandwich bar into a betting shop.

The Irish firm is seeking to overhaul the site in Market Place, Basingstoke, and install illuminated signs outside the shop front.

According to documents lodged with Basingstoke Deane Borough Council, the bookmaker would employ up to two full-time staff, and four part-timers.

The shop would open from 7.30am to 11.30pm, seven days a week. The council is set to reach a decision on the application by October 16.

Yes, just what's needed at the top of town, another betting shop. There's already three (Coral's, Ladbroke's and BetFred within about 100m of each other.

Let's hope this gets turned down.
