Whitchurch Carnival fun in the sun
SUNSHINE greeted Whitchurch Carnival as it set out through the town’s streets on Saturday, having been cancelled in July due to bad weather.
Led by the Carnival Queen and princesses, the procession made its way from Ardglen to the centre, winding its way through the town’s streets.
Members of the Whitchurch Youth Project dressed up as characters from Grease, and danced along to tunes from the 1950s musical.
Mexicans with maracas also entertained spectators, and were followed by belly dancers.
The annual event was organised by the Whitchurch Festival, and culminated in a fete in the grounds of Testbourne Community School , in Micheldever Road, with traditional activities including face-painting, a bouncy castle and demonstration from the Overton Black Arrows.
Cllr Jackie Day, mayor of Whitchurch, joined the procession in her mayoral robes.
She said: “It’s been pulled together really quickly and fantastically and we are very lucky with the weather. It’s gone very well and I’m happy to be part of it.”
