Mum and child rescued from Tadley house fire

A MOTHER and child were rescued by firefighters called to a kitchen fire in Tadley last night.
A crew from Tadley fire station used a ladder to reach the top floor of a three-storey townhouse in Hillcrest, where a woman and her nine-year-old son had become trapped by a kitchen fire on the ground floor.
Crew Manager Paul Gladstone, of Basingstoke fire station, said: “They could not get to the ground floor. They would have had to go through or near the kitchen to come out of the property.
“The Tadley crew brought them down the ladder after breaking a bedroom window.”
No injuries were reported.
A smoke alarm alerted to the residents to the fire, and they called the fire service at 04.19am this morning.
A total of 15 firefighters attended the scene, with two crews from Basingstoke and one from Tadley. They put the fire out, but the kitchen was badly damaged by smoke.
Crew Manager Gladstone said the cause of the fire was still being investigated, although it is not thought to be suspicious.
