TOTS from a Sherborne St John pre-school got into the Olympic spirit with a themed sporting event and family picnic.
Children aged between two and four created their own Olympic torches for the morning event at Piccolo Pre-school, in Vyne Road, where they were divided into teams representing different nations.
The teams, each clad in the colours of their adopted country, paraded around the playing field in front of the assembled parents, grandparents and staff before the games began.
Jane Sherwood, one of the owners of the pre-school, said: “Despite the poor weather, all the children had a great time and we had lots of parents praising the organisation of the event.
“A lot of the children are too young to understand what the Olympics are all about but it’s good to get them involved in such an important event.”
About 35 children took part in the games, trying their hand at hurdles, javelin, the sack race, egg and spoon at the event which was held instead of the pre-school’s annual sports day. Mrs Sherwood said: “The day was very well attended and lots of parents and grandparents came along despite a bit of rain.
“After the games themselves, we held a family picnic indoors, which everyone very much enjoyed.”
