A BASINGSTOKE mum has launched a campaign on Twitter to get children exercising from the minute they can crawl.

Becky Lane was inspired by the Olympic Games and sent Tweets to sports stars Jessica Ennis, Tom Daley, Rebecca Adlington and Colin Jackson, saying: “How important is getting kids into fitness from a young age in your opinion?”

Much to the 27-year-old’s surprise, she received a reply from 110m hurdler Colin, an Olympic silver medallist, who responded saying: “Yes...Very... I was running at the age of 4 years #earlystart.”

Becky, who created pre-school dance and fitness workout club Movin Monkeez, has now asked for their help to raise awareness of exercising at a young age.

The mother-of-one from Woburn Gardens, South Ham, said: “I feel so strongly about this. I think the Olympics have inspired so many people and we shouldn’t let that feeling fade.

“I’ve been to so many mum and baby groups where the mums just sit there awkwardly trying to control their babies on their laps when all they want to do is move around.

“We need to call for change, put your babies down and encourage them to crawl around and run around.

“If we instil fitness in them from the word go then we may stop another generation of children growing up with obesity problems.”
