Garden tribute to the Paralympic Games

The Over 55's Club complete their Olympic flower bed.
The Olympic spirit that swept across Basingstoke with the torch relay is continuing with the creation of a special tribute to the Paralympic Games.
The Over-50s Gardening Club at Viables Craft Centre, Jays Close, have contributed to the construction of a new raised bed at the centre, proudly bearing five Olympic rings, the year 2012 and an Olympic torch.
All the team chipped in with the bed designed by member Dave Wilshaw.
Club member Allan Blythe said: “We hope that the raised bed will reflect the local interest in the Games and be of particular interest to the Paralympics, inspiring local people who in some way have difficulty in gardening.”
The Over-50s club had to endure wet conditions throughout the project with this summers’ unseasonablly wet weather and it would not have been possible without help from the charity Thrive. It is a national charity that uses horticulture and gardening to improve the lives of disabled people across the country.
Help also came in the form of a bursary from the five gold rings community programme, which encourages projects through the community.
