Winklebury family evacuate home after bin fire

A FAMILY fled their home in the early hours of this morning when smoke from a fire outside entered the house.

Fire fighters from Basingstoke were called to the house in Watson Way, Winklebury at 2am where a bin had been deliberately set on fire outside.

Smoke from the fire had entered the property and the family of five evacuated their home into the garden.

Crew manager Paul Deakin said: “There was a mum, her son, his girlfriend and their two young kids. They had to get out because of the smoke. It could have been a lot worse.”

It took just five minutes for fire fighters to extinguish the flames, and no one was injured in the blaze. Police are now investigating.
