Accident verdict on Hook woman
9:10am Thursday 16th August 2012 in News
A HAMPSHIRE woman died after a fall at a care home near Basingstoke, an inquest heard.
Jean Christmas died aged 85 in June after sustaining a blood clot in her brain following the fall in her room at Old Raven House Care Hotel, in Hook.
Although she initially appeared to be fine following the accident, her condition deteriorated when the left side of her face began to droop, and it was feared she had had a stroke.
The inquest in Winchester heard that the pensioner was taken to the city’s Royal Hampshire County Hospital, which has a specialist stroke unit, on June 21 and the clot was discovered, but she could not recover and died the next day.
Grahame Short, coroner for Central Hampshire, recorded a verdict of accidental death.
