GET your boots on – that’s the appeal to employees at Basingstoke businesses ahead of a fundraising five-a-side football tournament.
The tenth annual tournament, organised and sponsored by Basingstoke firm Merit Recruitment, will take place at the Powerleague site, in Brighton Way, Brighton Hill, on Saturday, August 25.
Managing director Maria Nunes set up the tournament after the death of her father 10 years ago to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
So far, 24 teams have entered the competition but the company wants to increase that number.
Miss Nunes said: “We have got a core group already, some of which have been supporting us for 10 years.
“It would be great to get up to 32 teams and would help us raise a lot more for Macmillan.”
Local organisations and companies that have entered include Basingstoke hospital , wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd, and computer firm Centerprise.
The day, which lasts from 10am to 4pm, will include a raffle, with prizes donated by every firm that has entered, children’s games and food.
Entry costs £150 per team, and each squad can have up to eight players.
