Whitchurch event postponed after rain

AN annual procession and fete in Whitchurch has been called off due to rain.

Organisers made the decision yesterday to postpone the Carnival Procession and Fete, which is part of the Whitchurch Festival.

The event normally involves hundreds of children parading through the town in fancy dress before attending a fete in the grounds of Whitchurch Primary School in Daniel Road.

Rob Dunlop, chairman of the Whitchurch Festival Association, told The Gazette: “The forecast for today is more rain.

“We had confirmation from the primary school caretaker that there was no way we could use the school field in its current state. We are all gutted but we do think it’s the right decision to make.”

He added that he will look for another date this year to hold the event.
