FROM pulling pints to pulling in the pounds – a group of women from a north Hampshire pub have teamed up to do their bit to help the fight against cancer.
The 10-strong team, aged between 16 and 50, were inspired to enter this year’s Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life after deciding they wanted to do something for charity together.
They work at The Phoenix Inn, in London Road, Hartley Wintney, and will be among the thousands who will walk, jog and run around the 5km course at Basingstoke’s Down Grange Sports Complex on Wednesday, June 20 at 7.30pm.
The team are hoping to raise a total of £1,000.
The leader of the ‘Phoenix Girls’, Danielle Wild, 23, said: “We are really looking |forward to taking part in Race for Life.
“We were inspired to sign up and do something for charity that we can all join in with, and we’re hoping that our customers and other staff will be generous when it comes to sponsoring us.
“So many people are touched by the disease and we wanted to do something positive to help support Cancer Research UK’s |life-saving work.”
Last year, 2,846 women took part in the Basingstoke event, raising an incredible £162,894.
This year, organisers are hoping that a total of 2,700 women will enter to help achieve a fundraising target of over £155,000.
Lea Blake, Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event manager in Hampshire, said: “Race for Life is not about being fast or fit. Instead, it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.”
