BASINGSTOKE and District Cats Protection’s recent Spring Fair saw 65 entries for the popular Cat Photography competition.

Running for its eighth year, the event was organised by David and Marion Canning on behalf of the charity. Awards were given out to winners in each of three categories, which were for photographic quality, picture content and visitors’ choice.

Tracey Dutton, from Basingstoke, was declared the winner of the photographic quality award, while Aldermaston’s Antony Ashton walked away with first prize in the other two categories.

Mr Canning, who also acted as a judge, said: “With the advent of digital photography, the quality of the photographs gets better and better and it is more difficult for us to pick a winner, so the visitors’ choice gives an alternative view.”

Hilary Wells, branch co-ordinator said: “Congratulations to all the winners, and many thanks to David and Marion Canning for organising and providing us with a wonderful display of photographs.”

The photographs will be used for a 2013 Cat Calendar produced by Mr and Mrs Canning.

After the fair, the couple presented Cats Protection with a cheque for over £115, including takings from the 2012 Cat Calendar. The 2013 Cat Calendars will be on sale at The Tadley Treacle Fair in June.
