THIS is the man police want to speak to after a woman had her handbag snatched in a Basingstoke park.

The mugging took place in Glebe Gardens between 9.40pm and 9.50pm on Thursday, September 8.

A man approached the 29-year-old |victim as she sat on a bench, and asked her for a light. He then grabbed her bag, which contained around £200, and left the park. Officers have now issued an efit image of the man.

He is described as black, of stocky build, with thick black hair in a square-style cut. He wore dark-coloured jeans, black trainers with bright fluorescent laces, and a black and white shell suit jacket.

Detective Constable Catherine Atherton said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area who may have seen this man, who seems to have been wearing quite distinctive clothing.”

Anyone with information can contact Det Con Atherton, at Basingstoke CID, on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
