Food, glorious food

VILLAGERS gave in to temptation at this year’s Odiham Food Festival.

Jams, jellies, meats and cheeses were among the many offerings on Bank Holiday Monday as Odiham High Street played host to some of the area’s finest produce.

Many of the region’s most popular food establishments set up stalls promoting their fare and hungry visitors were more than happy to take a bite.

The event was marshalled by members of the Air Cadets at RAF Odiham who ensured the day ran smoothly.

Town manager Peter Fountain told The Gazette he was delighted with this year’s event.

“Firstly I want to thank the cadets for their assistance today, we are very lucky in Odiham to have such vibrant young people who are happy to do their bit for the community.

“A day like today is terrific for people who want to sample local food, get together and have a good time.

“We can see by the number of people here today how popular these sorts of events are.”

With the High Street being closed off, pedestrians were given the chance to browse at their leisure and it proved a good opportunity for local businesses to meet the community.

Jan Baker, who opened The Frame shop just three months ago, said she was overwhelmed by the community spirit in the village.

“For us as a new business it is great to have this chance to meet new people.”

The event was organised as part of Hampshire Farmers Markets.
