YOUNG musicians and singers performed at an annual event to raise money for the musical sections they attend.

Members of the Basingstoke Area Youth Orchestra (BAYO) and choirs entertained visitors at Everest Community College in Oxford Way, Popley, Basingstoke, where art and craft stalls were also set up selling hand-made products.

About 300 young people performed throughout the day, either singing in the café or playing their instruments on the main stage, which included a junior choir, a wind training orchestra and a youth string orchestra.

Dave Woods, chairman of the Friends of BAYO, said: “The groups played during the day and there were singers in the café doing cabaret.

“The craft fair brought extra funding for this non-profit organisation and in the evening there was a picnic with more performances.

“This is a new venue for us and it was fantastic. It’s nice and open and double the size of what we’ve had in the past.”

The event is now in its fifth year and helps to raise money for BAYO to fund the sections and to pay for members to go on tour.

More than 40 art and craft stalls were set up along the corridors at Everest, including potters, glass crafters, candle-makers and card-markers, some of whom demonstrated their skills throughout the day.
