ELECTRICITY transformers which are being moved between Basingstoke and Southampton this weekend could cause problems on the roads.
The 175 tonne transformer at Bramley substation is being replaced with one coming from Southampton docks.
A 65.4 metre tractor and trailer will transport the load at 9.30am on July 31, travelling from the National Grid substation in Bramley, along Minchens Lane, The Street, Silchester Road, Boars Bridge, Bramley Road then left onto the A340, A339 and onto the M3 heading south to Southampton.
Police will escort the vehicle which will travel between four and 25mph. The transformer coming from Southampton on Sunday will follow the same route in the opposite direction.
The change is likely to cause disruption until midday on Saturday, and between midday and 2.30pm on Sunday.
Parking restrictions will be in place along roads in Bramley between 8.30am and 12pm on July 31 and 12pm and 3.30pm on August 1.
Justin Lewis, project manager at National Grid said: “This is a huge piece of equipment to move and the route has needed very careful planning. We have tried to avoid causing disruption wherever possible.”
He added: “We apologise for any inconvenience this delivery may cause, but it is essential to ensure continued electricity supplies to the area in the years to come.”
