Awards deadline is drawing near

THE DEADLINE is looming for nominations to be made for the 2010 A Place to be Proud of Awards.

There is now just over a week to go before entries close in the 10 categories which make up this year’s awards.

Details of the categories are contained in the panel on this page, and entries need to be submitted by Friday, March 26.

The awards honour, and celebrate, individuals and organisations to be proud of – people, groups, organisations and companies that have all made a difference to the town and borough community.

Many of the past sponsors of the awards have again given their backing to the 2010 event. It will be the seventh year of the awards which were first presented in 2004.

As well as the awards in the various categories, there will be five grants worth £200 which will be awarded by local company Great Guns Marketing to the most deserving groups who are giving something back to the community.

Founder of the company Liz Jackson will present the cheques to the winners on the May 23 awards evening. As is the case with the main awards, applications for grant support can also be submitted online.

This year, the awards evening is being hosted by BBC Radio Berkshire broadcaster Anne Diamond.

Anne said: “The A Place to be Proud of Awards are a fantastic initiative and I’m delighted to be involved this year.

“I’m a great supporter of community-led events that reward people who work so tirelessly but who can so often go unnoticed.”
