FIVE motorists were barred from driving between Tadley and Basingstoke yesterday as part of a roadside safety crack-down.
Hampshire Constabulary joined forces with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) in an operation against uninsured or untaxed drivers, and unsafe vehicles.
They removed five illegal and dangerous vehicles from the A340 between Tadley and Sherborne St John in an operation carried out between 7am until 12.30pm.
Police officers seized two vehicles for being uninsured and one for being untaxed - using powers under the Road Traffic Act and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.
VOSA officers took a further two vehicles from the road, one for defective lights and the other for unsafe tyres.
Roads Policing Unit Sergeant Lyndon Barrett said: “The operation was a great success. This can only help to make the roads safer for us all to use.”
Sgt Barrett also urged drivers to ensure they keep their vehicles well-maintained, especially during the remaining winter months, when weather can have a noticeable effect on the performance of tyres and brakes.
