Tadley Hill shut as driver rescued

A BUS driver had to be cut free by firefighters after his vehicle ended up in a ditch in Tadley.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm this afternoon on the A340, between the junction with Fairlawn Road and Rowan Road.

Fire crews were called to cut free the driver of the bus, who spent more than two hours stuck in his cab in a ditch on the southbound side of the road.

An air ambulance was also called to the scene, landing in Glebe Close, but was not required. The driver was treated for minor injuries and it is thought nobody was injured in the crash, including the five passengers on board the Stagecoach bus.

Officers closed a section of the A340 for several hours following the smash.

Sergeant Pete Haywood, of the Farnborough Roads Policing Unit, said: “It appears a white van came down Tadley hill and slowed to turn left.

“We are not entirely sure what happened to the bus driver, but it appears the bus was travelling behind the van - there's been some sort of collision and he's gone across the road and into the ditch.”

Apparently this report is badly flawed, and that is from someone who was actually there.

With their long hours and shifts it's no surprise they are put in harms way. It is know that a couple of overtime hungry drivers from overseas regularly break the rules on driving hours. To stop this abuse and improve safety it's time to get these things on tachographs. After all, the van driver delivering your washing machine needs one, why should the driver taking your child to school *not* need one?

They have long lunch breaks to split their hours Tintinout, and only lorries over seven and a half tons need tachographs.

No one is to blame yet in this case.

Many drive for 5 and a half hours, followed by 30 minutes, and a further block of 5 hours Town Crier. In fact they can drive for up to 10 hours legally without a break. This compares to a good vehicle of 4 and a half hours and a 45 minute break requirement. So a washing machine in a van is treated better than a person on a bus. If you will insist on other people getting their facts correct, at least be correct in fact yourself twonk.

Nothing wrong in what I said.
Just being your usual obnoxious self then Tintinout?

I heard that Stagecoach did not even inform the drivers next of kin that he had been in an accident. She called the Police and reported him missing when he failed to come home from work.

What a lovely, caring company - and so good at providing a public service to the Borough too.
