TRAVELLERS have set up camp at a town centre site earmarked for development.
A number of caravans have been parked up in the car park area of Brook House off Alencon Link in Basingstoke for several days.
Bewley Homes, the company that owns the site, is aware of the situation and taking steps to remove the people who are using the site illegally.
Andrew Morris, land director, said: "We are in the process of securing a court order to evict the travellers from the site and liasing with the police and the council to do so."
He also confirmed that the company would be actively taking steps to make the site more secure so this situation does not arise again.
Samantha Naylor, corporate communications officer at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, confirmed that the council was aware of the issue.
