Family pay tribute to jogger

THE family of a jogger who died following a collision with a car have paid tribute to their "much-loved, popular" daughter and sister.

Trudi Fletcher, 36, was jogging across the A30 dual carriageway near the junction with Beggarwood Lane, Basingstoke, on Monday, August 20, at about 6pm, when she was involved in a collision with a silver Honda Civic car travelling towards Hatch Warren.

Miss Fletcher suffered serious head and spinal injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

Her parents, Roger and Joan Fletcher, and her two younger brothers, Graham and Alan, and their wives, this week released a statement.

They said: "We are devastated by the loss of our Trudi, our daughter, our sister. She was a much-loved, popular person, who will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.

"We miss her desperately and will always remember the lovely, kind person that she was.

"We would like to thank you all for the kind words that we have had over the past week, and all the support that we have received, which has been greatly needed."

Miss Fletcher's funeral will be held at 2pm on Friday, at Basingstoke Crematorium.

The family have asked mourners not to send flowers, and request that donations be sent to Breakthrough Breast Cancer via www.breakthrough.org.uk - a charity that Miss Fletcher supported and represented in the Fleet half-marathon earlier this year.

The family's statement added: "We love you Trudi. Now that God has called you home, you can run in heaven's lush green fields under beautiful blue skies to your heart's content."

Scores of tributes and messages of support have also been left on this website.

A 57-year-old man from Basingstoke who was driving the Honda involved in the accident, was taken to Basingstoke hospital and treated for shock, cuts to his hand and whiplash injuries.

Anyone who saw Miss Fletcher or the Honda before the incident, or who witnessed the accident, is urged to contact Farnborough Roads Policing Unit on 0845 045 4545, quoting Operation Westerham.
