FIREFIGHTERS are currently tackling a fire in a field of straw this morning.

Around 20 firefighters from Basingstoke Fire Station were dispatched after they were called to a field in Summer Down Lane, in Malshanger at around 10.19pm last night.

Crews from Overton, Eastleigh, Andover and Bordon were also on scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Paul Gladstone, crew manager at Basingstoke Fire Station, told The Gazette: “We expect them to be out there most of the day.

“It is 100 per cent burnt out. There were five stacks of straw and the wind just blew from one to the others.”
